Coral Bleaching & Reef Health

Coral gets its color from symbiotic algae (zooxanthellae). When water temperature rises above ~29°C or pH drops below 7.8, coral expels the algae and turns white — bleaching. Prolonged stress leads to coral death, reducing biodiversity. Pollution increases algae overgrowth which smothers coral.
