Bernoulli's Principle

In a flowing fluid, where velocity increases, pressure decreases (and vice versa). Bernoulli's equation: P + ½ρv² + ρgh = constant. The continuity equation A₁v₁ = A₂v₂ means fluid speeds up in a constriction. This explains airplane lift, Venturi tubes, and why shower curtains get sucked inward.
