Types of Nebulae

Emission nebulae glow red (Hα) when ionized by nearby hot stars. Reflection nebulae scatter blue light from nearby stars. Dark nebulae are dense clouds that block background light. Planetary nebulae are shells ejected by dying low-mass stars. Star formation begins when dense clumps (Jeans mass) in molecular clouds collapse under gravity.
