The Rock Cycle

Rocks are constantly recycled: Igneous rocks form from cooled magma/lava (granite, basalt). Sedimentary rocks form from compacted sediments (sandstone, limestone). Metamorphic rocks form when existing rocks are changed by heat/pressure (marble, quartzite). Each type can transform into any other through weathering, melting, or pressure.
