Star lifecycle — from nebula to remnant

Stars begin in molecular clouds (nebulae). Gravity pulls gas into a protostar, then nuclear fusion ignites the main sequence phase. Low-mass stars (≤8 M☉) become red giants → planetary nebulae → white dwarfs. High-mass stars (>8 M☉) become supergiants → supernovae → neutron stars or black holes.
