Lesson 11.2: Areas of Trapezoids, Rhombi, and Kites

Key Concepts: Areas of Trapezoids, Rhombi, and Kites

Area of a Trapezoid

A = ½(b₁ + b₂)h

where b₁ and b₂ are the parallel bases and h is the height.

Area of a Rhombus or Kite

A = ½d₁d₂

where d₁ and d₂ are the lengths of the diagonals.

Key Ideas

  • The diagonals of a rhombus are perpendicular bisectors of each other.
  • The diagonals of a kite are perpendicular, but only one is bisected.
