Lesson 12.6: Surface Areas and Volumes of Spheres

Key Concepts: Surface Areas and Volumes of Spheres

Surface Area of a Sphere

S = 4πr²

Volume of a Sphere

V = (4/3)πr³

Hemisphere

  • Surface area (total) = 3πr² (curved surface + base circle).
  • Volume = (2/3)πr³.

Great Circle

A great circle is the intersection of a sphere and a plane through the center. Its circumference equals the circumference of the sphere.
