Lesson 4.4: Proving Congruence: SSS, SAS

Key Concepts: Proving Congruence — SSS, SAS

SSS (Side-Side-Side) Postulate

If three sides of one Triangle are congruent to three sides of another Triangle, the triangles are congruent.

SAS (Side-Angle-Side) Postulate

If two sides and the included Angle of one Triangle are congruent to two sides and the included Angle of another Triangle, the triangles are congruent.

  • The included Angle is the Angle formed between the two given sides.

Using SSS and SAS in Proofs

  1. Identify corresponding sides and angles from the given information.
  2. Look for shared sides (Reflexive Property) or Vertical Angles.
  3. Match three pairs: SSS or SAS.
  4. State the congruence, then use CPCTC for further conclusions.
