Lesson 6.6: Kites and Trapezoids
Kites and Trapezoids
Trapezoid
A trapezoid has exactly one pair of parallel sides (called bases). The non-parallel sides are called legs.
- Isosceles trapezoid: Legs are congruent. Base angles are congruent. Diagonals are congruent.
- Midsegment of a trapezoid: The segment connecting the midpoints of the legs. Its length = (b₁ + b₂) / 2.
Kite
A kite has two pairs of consecutive congruent sides (but opposite sides are NOT congruent).
- The diagonals are perpendicular.
- Exactly one diagonal bisects the other.
- Exactly one pair of opposite angles is congruent.
